Former Fed Chairs Unite to Oppose Trump’s Dismissal of Lisa Cook, Warning of Economic Risks
A coalition of former Federal Reserve chairs and Treasury secretaries has filed a legal brief with the Supreme Court opposing President Trump's unprecedented removal of Fed Governor Lisa Cook. The group—including Alan Greenspan, Ben Bernanke, Janet Yellen, and multiple former Treasury heads—argues the MOVE threatens the central bank's independence during pending litigation.
The brief contends that allowing Cook's dismissal WOULD undermine public trust in the Fed and create dangerous economic instability. It cites international examples where political interference in monetary policy led to severe inflation, specifically referencing Turkey's experience.
Cook was terminated last month following mortgage fraud allegations raised by FHFA Director Bill Pulte. The former governor has since filed a lawsuit challenging her removal.
